Italy: Education, Culture, and Community

This 10-day faculty-led tour introduces students to key aspects of Italy’s educational and cultural landscape. From Bologna’s historic university setting to the hill towns of Umbria and the landmarks of Rome, the program is designed to complement academic learning with real-world context.

The itinerary combines classroom visits, guided site tours, and cultural experiences focused on education, community, and Italian traditions.

Day 1 – Arrival in Bologna

Arrival at Bologna Airport and private transfer to city-center accommodation. Walking orientation through Piazza Maggiore.

Day 3 – Reggio Emilia School Visit

Classroom observation in a K–5 setting, followed by a visit to the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre to explore the Reggio Emilia Approach.

Day 5 – University of Bologna

Experience student life at the world’s oldest university through site visits and classroom observation.

Day 7 – Montessori History in Perugia

Visit to the Center for Pedagogical Studies and Santa Croce Preschool to explore the roots of Montessori education in Italy.

Day 9 – Montessori in Rome

School visit to a public institution offering the Cambridge International curriculum. Afternoon visit to Casa dei Bambini, the first Montessori school.

Day 2 – Bologna & Culinary Traditions

Guided walking tour of Bologna’s historic market district and Anatomical Theatre. Afternoon pasta-making workshop and group lunch.

Day 4 – Modena: Food and Design Heritage

Visits to a Parmigiano Reggiano dairy and a traditional acetaia for aged balsamic vinegar. Guided tour of Modena’s historic center.

Day 6 – Travel to Umbria

Private transfer to Perugia. Free time to explore the medieval town and its historic center.

Day 8 – Arrival in Rome

Transfer to Rome and guided afternoon tour of the historic center, highlighting key cultural and architectural landmarks.

Day 10 – Departure

Private transfer to Rome International Airport for return travel to the U.S.
